HARVEY W. JOHNSON

COWBOY ARTIST

" My dad was a sculptor and mom was a very good landscape painter.  They met at the Art Students league.  I have several other relatives who were artists, sculptors, musicians and art teachers.  With all these artists in the family, I was always going to be an artist... The Old West is a subject that has captured the imagination of the world.  There's no other era in history that
matches our west; the colorful Indians, the vast expanses
of land, the men and women emigrants with all their
hardships, the cowboy, the drover, the cavalryman, and
especially, the mountain man. The mountain man
is a recurring theme in my paintings."
